Dominic O’Neill - My Road to Success

I am now in my third year of working at Project Resource and I have just been promoted to run my own desk, recruiting for Quantity Surveyors and Estimators in the East Anglia area. I wanted to take a few minutes to talk about how I reached this point, how the training I've recieved combined with my own determination have lead me to success during my three year career with Project Resource.

I began my career at Project Resource as a bright eyed long haired and handsome Resourcing Junior. Here I learnt the very basics of recruitment, working as an apprentice in the recruitment industry alongside more experienced recruitment consultants. My aim was, through training and hands on experience, to learn how to source the best candidates on the market. This included learning how to qualify someone’s needs thoroughly and guiding them through job offers, to dealing with counter offers and writing resignation letters.

After I had mastered the basics, I became a Junior Consultant. I worked under two of our Senior Consultants, learning how to build relationships with clients and how to negotiate and agree fee’s (whilst maintaining the aforementioned relationships!). I learnt how to fully resource a job using networking and search and selection techniques, as well as utilising the wide range of media tools at my disposal such as LinkedIn and job boards to source candidates.

I have now spread my wings and started my own market in East Anglia. Currently, my main aim is to build up my manager and company database. I am working with a large amount of candidates and in just 2 weeks of working my new market I already have 10 open jobs and some really good interviews that are looking good to turn around by next week!
