3 reasons why your job search shouldn’t have a Christmas break

As we’re getting closer and closer to the Christmas period we thought it would be a great time to discuss your job searching strategy. Are you currently considering your job options and thinking “well we’re getting closer to Christmas, so maybe it’s better to wait until the New Year”? If so, then take a moment to read the rest of this article, and hopefully by the end you will agree that actually now is a great time to look for a new job.

It is a bit of a myth that Hiring Managers and HR departments shut up shop during the run up to Christmas. Their recruitment needs don’t have a break over Christmas or just magically disappear, so guess what, they are still open to hearing about great candidates who are looking to make a move.

Below are our top three reasons why searching for a new job during the run up to Christmas is actually very beneficial…

Less people, less competition

It happens every year, candidates who are actively looking for jobs start to wind-down ready for the Christmas break, and most stop looking altogether. Great news for you, as this means less competition for roles. Another bonus is that less competition doesn’t just mean that you have more chance of securing a new job, it also means that the hiring process will be quicker due to fewer interested candidates who have to be interviewed and considered for the same role… result!

So, a quicker hiring process means you could be starting a new job in the New Year, depending on your notice period.  At worst you could have secured your new role before Christmas…. what a great present to yourself!

More time to interview

Due to work slowing down over the run up to Christmas, Line Managers and HR departments tend to have more time to consider and interview candidates. On top of this we find that candidates have more time to be able to attend interviews as well. This can really help with quickly setting up interviews before Christmas, which helps speed up the hiring process.

The New Year Rush

There is always an influx of candidates looking for a new job in January. There are the candidates who have resumed their job search, plus other candidates who have had time to reflect on their careers over the Christmas period and decided they are ready for a job change… that’s a lot of people looking for a job! So it makes sense to avoid this rush and make yourself a stand out Christmas candidate by searching in the run up to Christmas.

We hope you found this article helpful, and we also hope you agree that actually the run up to Christmas is actually a very good time to start or continue your job search.
