What does the second half of 2019 have in store for the UK construction industry?

Wow, can you believe we’re almost half way through 2019!! We thought it would be interesting to see what the second half of 2019 looks like for the construction industry in terms of projects starting.

In this article we take a look at how many projects, with a value of £5m+ across all sectors are set to start between the dates of 1st July and 31st December 2019. Data has been provided by Glenigan.

So, let’s take a look at what to expect across each region and sector…

No surprises that London sits on top of the leaderboard with the most projects, however the South East region is not far behind. In total there are 2,552 projects that are set to start across all regions, which we hope you agree is a positive figure.

It’s also no surprise that the housing sector is going to experience the highest number of projects across every region given the need for new homes. On top of this it’s clear to see that retail projects will be relatively slow for the next 6 months.

If we take a look at what happened in the first half of the year the figures make for some positive reading. Between the dates of 1st January and 30th June 2019 we saw a total of 1,464 projects starting across all regions. This means that over the next 6 months we will see an increase of over 1,000 projects starting… great news!!

On top of this, if we take a look at the second half of 2018, there were 1,450 projects that started, meaning there is an increase of over 1,000 more projects set to start… very positive!!

So given this exciting increase we have no doubt there are going to be an increase in the number of job opportunities across all regions opening up.
