Managing Quantity Surveyor

Managing Quantity Surveyor | Rail | North London


We are representing a UK's leading construction and infrastructure business. Due to continued growth and being awarded a number of key rail framework contracts our client are recruiting for a Managing Quantity Surveyor for their rail team.

This Managing Quantity Surveyor position will be based in North London. Co-located with our client's delivery team, this is a major project for Network Rail which involves the development of a new Thameslink Railway Station as part of an overall re-development of Brent Cross (including commercial & retail).

Initial phase of works includes the development and management of the detailed design, leading into the delivery of the new station incorporating new platforms, architectural station concourse, footbridge and entrance units.

Key Responsibilities:

Reporting to a Commercial Manager within this role you will be responsible for the following:

  • Management and control of commercial aspects of the project.
  • Direct interface / liaison with the client's delivery team.
  • Encouragement and creation of a teamwork culture, recognising the responsibilities of the line management structure.
  • Responsibility for the quantity surveying functions.
  • Assistance in the procurement of subcontracts.
  • Identification and management of change control.
  • Management and accurate maintenance of cost reporting / forecasting (internal and client reporting). Provision of accurate and timely commercial reports and advice to the management team.
  • Participation in the management of the team including management of resource levels, providing direction, leadership, and assessing the training and development requirements of quantity surveying staff.

Requirements for this Managing Quantity Surveyor position:

  • Educated to degree level preferable with chartered accreditation.
  • Relevant and comprehensive experience covering commercial management, quantity surveying, project management and estimating services, and a sound understanding of commercial risk analysis and assessment.
  • Solid understanding of ICC, NEC3 and Network Rail conditions of contract.
  • Knowledge and experience of cost and value reporting, cash flow forecasting.
  • Contract claims experience.
  • Experience of supervising quantity surveying staff.
  • Experienced in negotiation and settlement of disputes and accounts relating to customers and suppliers.
  • Experienced in the management of staff, including managing performance development and following disciplinary procedures.

Remuneration for this Managing Quantity Surveyor position:

  • £65,000 - £75,000 per annum (depending on experience)
