Our Client:

Our client is a large multinational, multi-disciplinary consultancy with a well-established and respected Building Services Design team based in London delivering design solutions across multiple sectors including a specialist Data Centre / Mission Critical team.

The Opportunity:

Our client is looking for a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join their specialist data centre / mission critical team, to assist in the design of new build and upgrade of data centres not just in the UK but across Europe. The job is located in the heart of the City of London and provides a great opportunity for a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer (or a Senior Mechanical Engineer looking for their next step) to be further involved in the data centre sector.

What the job will involve:

This job as a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer will involve:

  • Manage engineering projects and co-ordinate resource and activities to achieve short-term time and financial targets
  • Produce engineering designs, calculations and specifications, using appropriate technical software
  • Co-ordinate input from other disciplines and specialisms as required
  • Prepare technical reports in accordance with clients' briefs
  • Supervise and co-ordinate the production of technical drawings
  • Check calculations, specifications, drawings and reports produced by others, in accordance with Operational Procedures
  • Attend and participate in client and (internal and external) project meetings
  • Undertake site visits to monitor the progress of works against our clients' specification, and highlight issues to the contractor, client and/or (internal or external) project manager as necessary
  • Report regularly to relevant Associate(s) on the performance of projects against agreed project plans and budgets
  • Correspond with external third parties (e.g. clients, contractors, architects and/or manufacturers) regarding information and technical queries
  • Provide training and coaching to less experienced staff
  • Proactively manage own continuing professional development (including, where appropriate, actively pursuing Chartership with an appropriate professional institution).

The Requirements:

The ideal Principal Mechanical Design Engineer should:

  • Have a bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant discipline
  • Be chartered or have evidence of working towards becoming chartered
  • Have experience in the field and evidence of technical competence
  • Offer a proven track record in the successful delivery of live projects in a Lead Engineer role
  • Offer recent and ideally multiple project experience designing solutions for all mechanical services on data centre projects
  • Ideally have relevant experience gained in a UK consultancy or d&b environment
