Job Title: Senior Quantity Surveyor

Opportunity within: Construction, MOD

Location: Salisbury

Remuneration depending on experience: £40,000 - £55,000 per annum plus company car and fuel card, healthcare, pension and additional benefits


A top client we are working with is currently seeking experienced Senior Quantity Surveyors to lead a commercial function within their defence contract.

Our client is a successful national contractor with a number of prestigious projects to its order book.


The successful Senior Quantity Surveyors will lead a commercial function within the project, and will be accountable to the Commercial Manager for the commercial and contractual aspects of the project. The Senior Quantity Surveyors' prime responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):

  • Providing Operations with commercial and contractual advice, determining risks and maximising opportunities
  • Assisting supply chain in the procurement of suppliers, subcontractors and consultants
  • Establishing robust and consistent change control processes on the project, ensuring changes are identified and agreed with the employers
  • Management overview of appropriate risk and opportunity allowances
  • Ensuring compliance with the Integrated Management Systems
  • Development and training of direct reports
  • Integrating with work winning teams to assist in the delivery of tenders
  • Developing, implementing and reviewing effective commercial practices within a project
  • Ensuring cash management is effected
  • Maintaining risk management processes and procedures
  • Ensuring proper and timely notification of contract or insurance events
  • Preparing accurate and prudent cost/value analysis
  • Budget preparation
  • Approving interim and final account measurement
  • Approving pricing and rating variations
  • Obtaining appropriate extension of time management
  • Drafting claims for approval prior to submission
  • Maintaining cost control systems for demonstration to clients
  • Producing Project Procurement Strategy documentation and Project Value Enhancement Plans
  • Ensuring the effective performance management and development of his/her direct reports
  • Ensuring the effective organisation of everyone working within the commercial activity on the project
  • Assisting in the provision of a commercial appraisal of a project for external audit purposes


  • Previous experience working in a similar role within the construction sector is essential to be considered for this role
  • Main contractor experience is essential
  • Ideally within defence or MOD
  • Experience in managing trade packages and lump sum contracts is essential
